The real band table and grading rules used on this platform
Reading is graded instantly and fully locally — no Worker call, nothing subjective. Here’s exactly how your raw score out of 50 becomes a band, and exactly how each individual answer is checked.
The real band table — raw score out of 50
Correct (/50) Band Correct (/50) Band 0-6 1.0 29-32 4.0 7-11 1.5 33-36 4.5 12-16 2.0 37-40 5.0 17-20 2.5 41-44 5.5 21-24 3.0 45-50 6.0 25-28 3.5
Eleven bands, from 1.0 up to 6.0, applied to your raw score out of 50 the moment you submit.
The honest caveat: this is an approximation, not a leaked ETS table
TOEFL’s real raw-to-band conversion uses statistical equating across test forms and isn’t publicly published — confirmed directly from ETS’s own materials, which state “these statistical methods do not assume equal interval score points.”
The band table here is therefore a reasonable approximation, anchored to the CEFR correspondences ETS has actually published — for example, band 5.0 roughly lining up with CEFR C1 — not a verified ETS table. It’s honest about that distinction rather than pretending otherwise.
How an answer gets checked
For Complete the Words, your typed answer is lowercased, trimmed, and stripped of common punctuation before comparing — but the check accepts either the missing ending or the whole word, as covered in the Complete the Words tutorial. For Router and Module questions, it’s a simple exact match against the correct letter key — no partial matching, no interpretation.
No partial credit, and practicing a Module skips the band entirely
Every one of the 50 questions is graded strictly right or wrong. And if you use the “Skip to Section 2” option to practice a Module directly instead of earning it through the Router, no band is calculated at all — only a full attempt, through all 3 parts, produces one.
